Why Heal?

Mend a broken heart, overcome the troubles of the world, become whole, restore yourself, do your dreams, give permission to do it all. This is why we heal.

According to Meriam Webster:

Heal (pronunciation: 'hēl) Function: verb Etymology: Middle English helen, from Old English h[AE]lan; akin to Old High German heilen to heal, Old English hAl whole -- more at WHOLE transitive senses 1a: to make sound or whole <heal a wound> b: to restore to health 2a : to cause (an undesirable condition) to be overcome : MEND <the troubles... had not been forgotten, but they had been healed -- William Power> b: to patch up (a breach or division) <heal a breach between friends> 3: to restore to original purity or integrity <healed of sin>intransitive senses: to return to a sound state.

It has been a most amazing thing over the years to witness the healing process – to be there when someone truly transforms a painful way of thinking or being or feeling into joy.  It has been my pleasure to help people transform shame into self-love, rage into peace, guilt into allowing, fear into trust, poverty into wealth, mediocrity into greatness, and passion.

How incredible to become an empowered and strong human being who views the world as a safe, abundant, joyful place to be – to learn the art and skill of designing one’s life, to connect to nature and people and love.

People who have come to heal their pain and transform their lives have learned to trust again, to resolve old issues, let go of old resentments, and grieve what has heretofore been held deep inside. Those who could not before -  have learned to touch and be touched, been able to tell their stories of abuse and trauma and terror, release traumatic imprints in the body, and find a new reason to be alive.

I have been the honored guest when couples learned to open their hearts to one another, to understand, to speak their truths, their feelings – to go through the middle.

And I have seen people fly and dream and love and paint and discover their soul and passion.

How amazing to understand and really get that we have been living an unconscious program handed down from our parents, ancestors, culture, society, education, religion, politics - without the original opportunity to even know who we were.  Early childhood, womb and birth experiences imprinted our psyche with ways of believing and thinking that caused us to feel the way we feel, react, and live our lives.

In my first job as a counselor, I was told by my boss that I could not use the word healing – lest it might sound religious or new age.  I was not allowed to print that word on any brochure or flyer.

The people healed anyway.

And so it is, we do too.

Much love, ❤️
